news uknews 8394785 ----- # Marlborough woods searched after woman disappears ## Police have been searching a 4,500-acre forest for signs of a missing clubber whose disappearance has been described as totally out of character. 400 227 TelegraphPlayer-8396513 [Link to this video][1] 2:50AM GMT 21 Mar 2011 Sian O'Callaghan, 22, left the Suju club in Swindon, Wiltshire, alone at about 2.50am on Saturday but has not made contact with any friends or relatives since, causing police to become increasingly concerned. Her phone was later used in Savernake Forest near Marlborough, 12 miles away. Officers spent yesterday combing the forest for information on Miss O'Callaghan's whereabouts, staying there until nightfall. Miss O'Callaghan had been on a night out with girl friends at the Japanese- themed club before she went missing. Her boyfriend Kevin Reape was not out with them and is believed to have raised the alarm when she did not return home. Chief Inspector Mike Jones of Wiltshire Police said: ''For Sian not to return home after a night out and not make any contact with friends or family is not only unusual for her, but is something that she has never done before. ''Sian doesn't appear to have any reason in her personal life that would indicate that she might want to leave the area and she is normally an avid Facebook user, but has not used her account since earlier in the day on Friday. ## Related Articles * [CCTV: last sightings of missing clubber][2] 22 Mar 2011 * [Sheila Hancock gets CBE][3] 24 Mar 2011 ''Sian's family are extremely worried about her and we are offering them our full support.'' Savernake Forest, where police have focused their search, is between Marlborough and Hungerford and is privately owned by the Earl of Cardigan and his family. There is also an increased police presence in the town as the investigation into Miss O'Callaghan's disappearance continues. Chief Insp Jones urged anyone with information to come forward and made a direct appeal to Miss O'Callaghan herself. He said: ''It is very important that anyone who knows of Sian's whereabouts or of any reason for her to stay away contacts us immediately. ''I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal directly to Sian and ask her to make contact with her family or police to let us know that she is okay.'' Miss O'Callaghan is described as being white, 5ft 3in tall, of medium build, with brown hair cut in an asymmetric style and green eyes. She was wearing a grey dress, black bolero-style jacket, dark tights and flat boots when she was last seen, and was carrying a dark handbag with a beige flower attached. Concerned friends have set up Facebook groups and appealed for help on Twitter. Some left messages with one, Ty Johnson, writing: ''Have known Sian for a few years now and her presence always put a smile on everyone's face. ''It's horrible to think that someone would actually take this precious loved person away from the people who care about her! Hope you are found safe and well Sian.'' Louise Winton wrote: ''Hope you are safe and well babe ... everyone is going crazy without your beaming smile in their lives, you are an amazing person so whatever is going on please stay strong and be positive.'' Wiltshire Police confirmed Miss O'Callaghan was assaulted in the toilets of the same nightclub in October 2008, when another woman punched her. A force spokeswoman added: ''We are aware of a previous assault but we are very much focusing on the here and now. It is not a focus of the investigation at the moment.'' Anyone with information can contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
