# Mladic arrested: lawyer cites 'serious medical condition' for court delay
|

## Milos Saljic, lawyer for Serbian war criminal Ratko Mladic, confirms his

court appearance was halted on medical grounds, but the prosecution say

questioning will continue.

Ratko Mladic briefly appeared in court on Thursday, looking somewhat frail,
|
|
following his arrest in **[Serbia][1]** only hours earlier.
|
|
|
|
Authorities are seeking to extradite the former Bosnian Serb army chief to the
|
|
war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
|
|
|
|
However the Belgrade-based court were forced to halt questioning of Mladic due
|
|
to his poor health, his lawyer said.
|
|
|
|
Outside court Mladic's lawyer Milos Saljic said: "The investigative judge had
|
|
tried to interview Ratko Mladic but without success because he is in a serious
|
|
condition. He is hardly responsive, and that's why the judge interrupted the
|
|
interview. Doctors will examine him and determine his condition and whether he
|
|
can be interviewed," lawyer Milos Saljic told reporters outside court
|
|
|
|
Bruno Vekaric, the deputy war crimes prosecutor, told reporters questioning
|
|
would continue on Friday.

"He is under medical supervision. Also the investigative judge is taking care
|
|
to guarantee his legal rights. He called members of his family, and everything
|
|
else which is according to the legal system. The procedure will be continued
|
|
tomorrow," Vekaric said.
|
|
|
|
Mladic is sought by the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague to face
|
|
charges of genocide and war crimes during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war.
