# US storms: tornado blows shop sign 112 miles
## A powerful tornado which ripped across a small town in Georgia, swept up
everything in its past and then roared north into Tennessee, finally dumping a
shop sign more than 112 miles away.

Linda Summitt of Knoxville, Tennessee, could not believe her eyes when she
walked into her front garden and found the sign for the Remco Business Center.
But it wasn't the stray cardboard "FOR LEASE" sign that really caught her
attention. It was where it had come from - some 112 miles to the south from
the town of Ringgold, Georgia.
Ringgold, near the Georgia-Tennessee border, was devastated by a deadly storm
and tornado on Wednesday.
She checked the number on the sign and rang the store owner immediately.
"I said 'You're kidding,'" Alvin Mashburn, the owner of the center, told AFP.
"I told her just to keep it as a souvenir."

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal may request a presidential disaster declaration
after 14 people were killed in the state by the deadly tornadoes.
Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) public affairs officer Ken Davis
said damage was being assessed across the state.
"Georgia was hit hard by a number of devastating, super-cell tornadoes last
night and this morning," Mr Davis said. "The northwest corner of the state has
been hit particularly hard."
