# Tornado rips through US town
|
|
|
|
## A large tornado tore the roof off a high school, knocked out power lines
|
|
and destroyed several homes and buildings as it rampaged through the small
|
|
town of Mapleton, Iowa.
|

|
The tornado was reportedly a quarter-mile wide when it swept through the town
|
|
of Mapleton, at around midnight local time.
|
|
|
|
It also managed to flattened a grain elevator - used to scoop up and deposit
|
|
grain into storage facility.
|
|
|
|
Governor of Iowa, Terry Branstad, issued a disaster proclamation allowing the
|
|
state to spend money to respond to the effects of it. Authorities reported no
|
|
serious injuries.
