_Doctor Who_'s Matt Smith will be up against former Bafta Television Award
winner Jim Broadbent in the Leading Actor category, it was announced today.
Smith was an unheralded choice when picked in January 2011 to become the
eleventh Doctor in the science-fiction series, replacing David Tennant. At
just 26, he became the youngest actor to play the role.
He faces stiff competition for the award. _Sherlock Homes _(BBC One) star
Benedict Cumberbatch is also nominated, alongside Daniel Rigby, who played
comic Eric Morecambe in _Eric and Ernie_ (BBC Four). Jim Broadbent is
recognised for his role in Channel 4 drama series _Any Human Heart_.
