# Retracing the Camino, the pilgrim path to Santiago: day three
|
|
|
|
## In 1999 the Telegraph's Derek Bishton joined the more than 100,000 people
|
|
a year who walk the Camino - the route across Northern Spain to the shrine of
|
|
St James in Santiago de Compostela that pilgrims have been following for more
|
|
than a thousand years. Now he has gone back for more.

His original pilgrimage took 31 days during which time he stayed mostly in
|
|
pilgrim hostels with his world packed into a rucksack.
|
|
|
|
This time he retraces his journey by road with the luxury of five star
|
|
accommodation. His challenge: to complete the journey in three days, while
|
|
still capturing the most memorable locations and the feelings they evoke.
|
|

On the third and final day Derek travels from Leon to Santiago.
