## Restaurants in Ibiza specialise in creating good food and a great
ambience. Here, we select some of Ibiza's best bars, cafes and restaurants.

Ibiza is renowned for its assault on the senses. From the moment you arrive,
it feels as if you have materialised from another, more monochrome, two-
dimensional reality. Colours seem brighter, the air feels fresher and the nose
and palate no longer feel jaded.

Eating out in Ibiza: Frita de porc, a traditional Ibizan dish with pork,
peppers, potatoes and onions.
An immaculate seafood paella always tastes so much better when enjoyed on a
shaded terrace with a glass of wine, a view over a turquoise sea and the sound
of birdsong among the pines.
Creating a special atmosphere for the enjoyment of food is an Ibizan
speciality, whether it be a candle-lit dinner on a beachside terrace as the
sun slowly sets, watching the world go by in a cobbled street in Ibiza Old
Town or enjoying a sun-soaked lunch on the patio of a converted old Ibicencan
farmhouse in a country village.
Few destinations around the world do ambience quite so well. Imagination is a
crucial part of the mix and restaurants that create a different world with a
combination of superb interior design and inspired regional cooking are not
hard to find.
Two of the best include **Bambuddha Grove** on the road to Sant Joan, famous
for its chilled-out Eastern vibe, and **La Paloma** in the village of Sant
Llorenç, in the centre of the island.
**El Bigotes**, tucked away in a cove around the corner from Cala Mastella on
the east coast, is also an institution, serving lunch on wooden benches right
by the water opposite traditional fishermen's huts (booking in person is
essential).
Traditional seafood recipes include arroz a la marinera (fisherman's style
rice), bullit de peix (fish stew) and borrida de rajada (ray, potatoes and
almonds), while favourite meat dishes include frita de porc (pork, peppers,
potatoes and onions) and sofrit pages (fried lamb, chicken, pork, potatoes and
peppers).
Sweet menus feature flao, a tart made of goat's and sheep's cheese, and
greixonera, a pudding of pastry, milk and eggs.
The most famous restaurants are often very busy, especially at weekends in
high season, so it's always worth booking in advance. There are also plenty of
good-value smaller restaurants that serve great food and are invariably
relaxed and friendly.
**Where to eat in Ibiza**
Our pick of the best of the smaller bars, cafes and restaurants in Ibiza. Buen
provecho!
**Anita's, Sant Carles** This is a historic watering hole that should not be
missed. It was famous in the Sixties as the place where newly-arrived hippies
would pick up their mail from the PO boxes that are still on display. It
serves excellent tapas on a vine-shaded patio.
**Can Cosmi, Santa Agnes** On a terrace opposite the beautiful village church
in the north-west of the island, Can Cosmi is famous for its tortillas and as
a convivial meeting place for locals.
**Cami de Balafia** Near the village of the same name, known for its
interlocking houses and towers, Cami de Balafia is renowned for its barbecued
meat sourced from local animals and grilled over a fire of olive, almond and
carob wood. Delicious!
**Bar Costa, Santa Gertrudis** This is known for its paintings donated by
hard-up artists in return for sustenance. Don't miss its delicious jamon
serrano and famous bocadillos.
**Restaurant Salvado, Pou des Lleo** This out-of-the-way little restaurant
perched above a tiny fishing cove serves some of the freshest fish on the
island in the form of Ibizan fish stew and a squid, prawn and mussel soup.
**Bon Profit, Ibiza New Town** An good-value establishment in the heart of
Ibiza New Town, Bon Profit is family owned and has a canteenstyle dining area
that works very efficiently, so the queues that build up outside have a fast
turnover. Specialities include lamb and dorada (sea bream).
