# Ibiza sunset hotspots
## Watching the sun set in Ibiza is an island institution. Here are some of
the best locations to experience the Ibizan sunset.

Don't miss the spectacular Ibiza sunset when you visit the island.
12:22PM BST 24 Aug 2010
It's still the greatest show on Earth and it's never the same twice. There's
one performance daily and just one undisputed star of the show. But unlike
back home, where the weather often puts the main actor off his stride, during
the Ibizan summer the maestro is almost always on top form.
The key requirement for the perfect evening is a grandstand seat with an
unobstructed view of the stage and the company of friends or loved ones.
Watching the sun set in Ibiza is an island institution.
In Sant Antoni, the party crowd flock to the boardwalk around the bay outside
the famous Cafe del Mar as skydivers drop from the heavens and jet boats
pulling parasail canopies are silhouetted against the sky. Invariably, as
everywhere else on the island, a spontaneous round of applause ripples around
the bay as the last glowing ember is extinguished by the sea.
However many times you see it, this is a performance that never fails to
enchant. Everyone has their favourite spot for watching the show and
spontaneity is all part of the fun. But it's well worth planning ahead and
choosing your location carefully, depending on whether you're looking for a
raucous kneesup, a quiet dinner or something in between.
The west coast has all possible permutations from remote clifftops to rugged
coves, beaches, open-air restaurants and cocktail bars. Here are some of our
favourite locations.
**Sunset Ashram, Cala Conta**
What was until recently a trendy boutique has finally exploited its unique
location on the beach at Cala Conta, a little north-west of Sant Josep.
Looking out over the sea from a headland surrounded by beaches and turquoise
depths, the restaurant and sunset beach bar have views of small islands.
Sunset Ashram has a chilled-out vibe - often with a DJ or live music to
entertain you - that is perfect for enjoying a cocktail as the sun performs
its magic show.

**Torre d'es Savinar **
Anywhere along the west-facing peninsula of Cala d'Hort in the south of the
island is likely to give you a stunning sunset, but the location of this
defensive tower on cliffs overlooking the mystical island of Es Vedra is too
good to miss.
Get there early, as the signposted dirt track on the left off the road to Cala
d'Hort can be difficult to spot. It leads to a parking area 10 minutes' walk
from the tower - climb to the top for a seat in the "royal box" at the command
performance.
**Cap d'es Falco**
For a touch of the glam lifestyle and a good chance of spotting a celebrity or
two, head out to the Italian restaurant at Cap d'es Falco. It's along a bumpy
dirt track in the protected national park of Ses Salines, the ancient salt
pans that for centuries were one of the island's main sources of trade and are
still thriving today.
It's a lovely setting on a shingle beach with a trademark boat bar featuring
loungers made from driftwood. The restaurant is often hired out for weddings
and special events.

**Benirras**
Don't be put off by Benirras's reputation as the spiritual home of the hippies
who colonised Ibiza in the Sixties. It's a popular beach rather than a
deserted cove - of which there are many in the north-west - but it's far from
being overdeveloped and has a very friendly atmosphere.
On Sunday nights during the summer, the sun goes down to the beat of drummers
who congregate at the far west end of the beach. Don't be surprised to see
spectacular fire dancers joining in the show - and don't miss out on the best
mojitos in the Med!
**Santa Agnes cliffs**
The most remote of our choices of sunset-watching locations is situated on a
clifftop near the village of Santa Agnes in the north-west of the island.
There are many epic coastal walks in the area to choose from, including one
that leads to a ruined 17th-century finca.
Take the winding road from Santa Agnes towards the coast, past many beautiful
old Ibicenco farmhouses, until you get to a parking area in some trees
adjacent to a small bar and restaurant. The best site from which to watch the
sunset is a 10-minute walk to the west along the top of the cliffs.
