## From Fantasyland and Frontierland to the Pirates of the Caribbean and the
Toon Studio, Disneyland Paris is packed full of thrilling attractions. There's
so much to do, that it's wise to plan your visit, says Sylvia Derrick.

### DISNEYLAND PARK
Inside Disneyland Park there are five themed lands and it's worth allowing at
least two days to see them all.
**Main Street, USA** is an authentic slice of small-town America through the
earlier part of 20th century, with horse-drawn streetcars, period arcades and
Victorian stores all adding to the charm.
It's a wonderful evocation of the golden age when Walt Disney himself was a
boy - even down to the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour.

In **Fantasyland**, you can immerse yourself in the fairytales that inspired
Disney's classic animated films. You can visit Sleeping Beauty Castle, take a
spin in the famous Mad Hatter's Teacups and join a whistlestop tour of the
world (to a catchy musical accompaniment) on "It's a Small World".
In contrast, **Frontierland** is an adventure through the legends of the Wild
West. For younger children, there's the Pocahontas Indian Village, while the
whole family will relish the chance to cruise up the creek on a Mississippi
paddle steamer.
There are action-packed thrills to discover too, including Big Thunder
Mountain, where you'll career down the track at breath-taking speed on a
runaway mine train.
All ages will enjoy exploring a whole world of excitement at
**Adventureland**, in the company of some infamous rogues. Aspiring
swashbucklers can join the Pirates of the Caribbean on a journey through
secret caverns.
After that, follow one of the greatest explorers of them all, Indiana Jones,
in a whip-cracking adventure through the Temple of Peril.
**Discoveryland** is a trip through time and space and for many visitors,
Space Mountain: Mission 2 is its highlight. You'll experience exhilarating
g-forces as you blast off past screeching meteorites and black holes.
And space cadets of all ages will love Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, in which
you're called upon to help the Toy Story hero battle the Evil Zurg.
### WALT DISNEY STUDIOS
Just a few steps from Disneyland Park are Walt Disney Studios, where you'll
get a privileged insight into the fantastic world of cinema and television.
Ideally, you should allow at least a day to explore all four of its studio
lots. **The Front Lot **is a tribute to the enduring magic of Tinseltown. Find
yourself on set at Disney Studio One for the shooting of your very own movie
production - so make sure you're ready for your close-up!
Alternatively, if you prefer to be behind the camera, there's a chance to try
your hand at lighting and directing a movie Older children and adults will be
fascinated by the **Backlot**.
At the Armageddon Special Effects attraction, you'll experience some of the
most spectacular movie effects ever filmed, as you fly a spaceship through the
middle of a meteor shower.
And if you try out the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, you'll soon
realise why it was so named. The music rocks, while you roll from zero to
60mph in less than three seconds.
The secrets of film sets, studio life and costumes are laid bare in the
Production Courtyard.
But that's not all. There's also an opportunity to befriend an affable alien
in an amazing interactive animation at the **Stitch Live!** attraction.
What's more, **The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror** will certainly send shivers
down your spine as you plunge down 13 storeys into the gloomy depths of an
eerie abandoned hotel.
Lastly, there's the **Toon Studio**, based around the work of Disney's master
animators. Its biggest attraction - quite literally - is Toy Story Playland.
Here, everything seems to be on a giant scale, as the youngsters find
themselves shrunk to the relative size of characters in Disney-Pixar's Toy
Story films. Three larger-than-life rides add to the delight - Toy Soldiers
Parachute Drop, Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin and RC Racer.
### OTHER DISNEYLAND PARIS ATTRACTIONS
But your experience at the resort isn't just about the rides. There's nothing
quite like a Disney show or parade - not least for the look on the children's
faces as the Disney characters they've seen on the big screen magically come
to life in front of them!
Throughout the two parks, you can** make the most of your time with
Fastpass**, a free service that reduces the time you wait in line on a
selection of the most popular attractions.
Simply insert your ticket into a fastpass machi ne at the entrance to the
attraction and you will be issued with a return time, when you'll be able to
board in a matter of minutes. In the meantime, you can enjoy other activities
in the Parks.
The fun doesn't end when the Parks close for the night. **Disney Village**,
located between the Parks and the Disney Hotels, is an entertainment district
that's open from 7.30am till late every day. It's a holiday destination in
itself, with great shopping, regular concerts and live shows, a 15-screen
cinema complex, an IMAX theatre and a discotheque, where you can boogie the
night away.
Disney Village boasts four bars and 10 themed restaurants - all of which can
be booked in advance by calling 00 331 60 30 40 50 or at your hotel concierge.
But that's just a small proportion of the number throughout the whole of
Disneyland Paris.
You'll find plenty to tempt your taste buds, whether you fancy a family-
friendly feast at Walt's all-American diner in Main Street, USA; a quick
buffet lunch at Agrabah Cafe Mediterranean in Adventureland, or fine world
cuisine and the ocean liner-like ambience of the Restaurant des Stars. You can
even opt to take your meals with your best-loved Disney characters.
### PLANNING YOUR TRIP TO DISNEYLAND PARIS
* It's recommended that you proceed to the Parks early and head to the
attraction you most want to see upon arrival. Alternatively, go late - many
visitors leave in the early evening, meaning queues are shorter. You'll also
find that there are fewer people waiting at the attractions during the Disney
parades.
* Most people begin their exploration of Disneyland Park with Frontierland.
To avoid the crowds, turn right instead of left off Main Street USA and begin
with Discoveryland. Here, queues for Space Mountain: Mission 2 are normally at
their shortest first thing in the morning.
* Don't forget Extra Magic Hours -- guests at selected Disney Hotels are
allowed into certain areas of the Parks up to two hours before normal opening
time. See your hotel reception for more information.
* Join the Disneyland Railroad at Frontierland, Fantasyland or Discoveryland
rather than at Main Street USA, which tends to be busier.
* Avoid having lunch in the Parks between 12pm and 2pm, when the restaurants
are at their busiest -- or eat at Disney Village, just a five-minute walk away
from the Parks.
* Some attractions have height restrictions. Measure your children's height
before travelling to the resort and see [**www.disneylandparis.com**][10] to
find out which attractions they will be able to enjoy.
* Adults with youngsters too small to join them on an attraction can take
turns to ride, without having to queue twice, thanks to "Baby Switch" - ask a
Cast Member for details.
* Theme parks can be tiring for children, so why not take them back to the
hotel for a rest or a swim and return in the evening for dinner, an evening
show and the spectacular fireworks displays?
