# The Cayman Islands: Seven days in heaven
## What's a gang of girls to do on a tropical island in the Caribbean?
Sunbathing, snorkelling and of course cocktails are just for starters, as they
reveal in their diary of a week's indulgence in the Cayman Islands.

**Friday **
Step out of plane to be met by blanket of warm, sultry air. Bliss! In a flash,
we're at the resort: the five-star Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, right on famous
Seven Mile Beach.
Swap jeans for bikinis in our huge ocean**-**front rooms, then head straight
for the sugary, soft white sand.
Watch the sun sink behind the shimmering sea, cocktails in hand. We have
arrived!
**Saturday **
Take early morning dip (jetlag) before breakfast - opt for sumptuous fruit
instead of scrummy-looking, carb-loaded fry-up.
Consult gorgeous concierge Leroy, who recommends we spend the day at Rum
Point. Best beach on the island, he tells us, in his seductive lilt.
After quick detour via Sand Angels beachwear shop near the hotel and a few Liz
Hurley and Heidi Klein purchases, we're there. It's to die for.
Give up trying to drape ourselves stylishly in hammocks under palm trees and
collapse on beach chairs instead, to sun ourselves and gaze out across the
turquoise lagoon. Pure Castaway!
Try national drink, the mudslide (kahlua, vodka, Baileys), and watch stingrays
from jetty. The mudslides go down rather too well… so call Leroy and ask him
to drive us to a restaurant for dinner.
**Sunday **
Slightly slower start today after great night at Reef Grill, dancing with the
locals.
Indulge in hours of hedonistic pampering in resort's world-famous "Silver
Rain" La Prairie spa, rounded off with glasses of champagne.
In mood for some retail therapy so head to the capital, George Town. Trust
Leroy's tip and have street food for lunch.
Head to Smith's Cove, another gorgeous beach, to top up tans as we snooze.
**Monday**
Leroy books us on tiny Cayman Airways Express plane to nearby island Little
Cayman (pop. 150).
Met by lovely smiley man who takes us, and our bags, to the Little Cayman
Beach Resort. This is the place to admire dive dudes, he says. And iguanas.
Hotel makes us delicious picnic. Grab pushbikes (no taxis!) and set off for
Point of Sand beach, the "best-kept secret in the Caribbean".
Wobble along dusty road (flat, fortunately) for over an hour. Iguanas have
right of way, the sign tells us. About to give up when spot wooden sign for
beach. It's perfect - a deserted picnic paradise.
**Tuesday**
Spend day at resort admiring dive dudes. Drawn into flirtatious banter over
lunch, they persuade us to go snorkelling.
Kitted out with snorkels, masks and fins (don't call them flippers), we splash
about in a metre of water.
Get shock of life when huge stingray floats up from sand. Very friendly, our
new buddies tell us. Still feel the need, though, for a rum punch or three at
bar.
**Wednesday **
Really don't want to leave. Cling to off-duty fireman in bid to stay (one-room
airport serves as post office and fire station too) but eventually the lure of
Seven Mile Beach, cocktail bars and shopping proves too strong.
On landing, head straight for Tiki Beach - the place to be seen. Order
martinis and decide to move here.
**Thursday **
Last full day so decide to do more exploring. Head somewhat nervously to the
East End area. Not a pie shop in sight, thank goodness, just quaint villages
with pretty cottages and coastline dotted with amazing reefs.
Come across The Reef resort with some relief **-** we were gasping. Order
lunch and sigh with happiness at having the sweeping white beach all to
ourselves.
Discover it's entertainment night (Cayman's legendary Barefoot Man performs
live) so stay for delish dinner.
**Friday**
Last day; want to leave on a high. Leroy takes us literally and books tour
with Cayman Islands Helicopters.
First, lunch at Grand Cayman Beach Suites, where you can swim right up to the
poolside bar. Steel ourselves for take-off with several delicious mango
mojitos.
Pilot Jerome turns out to be dashing Frenchman who's been the stunt pilot on
27 films, including Speed. Melt.
"Welcome to my office," he cries, as we swoop over the reefs, spotting
turtles, stingrays and giant starfish.
As we land spot BA plane waiting to take us back to London. Just time to down
one last rum punch at the airport bar and make a promise to return very soon.
