Quick, easy to make and delicious, this stir-fry is full of flavour and
goodness. And if you cook it with Benecol® foods, you can enjoy its fresh
taste in an even healthier way, says Claire Sharp
Maintaining a good diet is not as daunting as you might think, especially if
you have a great set of recipes that are convenient to shop for and simple to
make.
A flavour-packed stir-fry, such as this one with chilli and lime prawns and
noodles, can be put together quickly at the end of a busy day. What's more,
it's a particularly health-conscious choice because it's made with Benecol
Buttery Taste Spread instead of oil. This is useful when trying to cut down on
the fat in your diet, as Benecol foods contain plant stanols that are
scientifically proven to lower cholesterol levels when eaten regularly as part
of a healthy lifestyle*.
Chinese and south-east Asian food has become part of people's everyday family-
cooking repertoire because it's quick and easy to prepare. It's really worth
seeking out top-quality fresh ingredients, too - not just for the crunch but
because they're full of vitamins.
Chef Dean Edwards, from ITV1's daytime TV show Lorraine, says it is not
necessary to have fresh noodles. 'Dried noodles are really good; especially
egg noodles, and they cook really fast. That's the essence of a stir-fry.'
'With anything oriental, the key is to get that balance of flavour between the
hot, the sweet, the salty and the sour just right,' says Dean. 'That's what
gives Asian cuisine its distinctive character.'
By replacing your usual oil or fat with Benecol Buttery Taste Spread in a
stir-fry recipe, you can retain all the great flavour while reducing the
saturated fat content to only 2.5g per serving.
'It's important to eat a balanced diet... I don't usually have butter at
home,' says Dean. 'Benecol Buttery Taste Spread is a brilliant substitute, for
both putting on bread and cooking. Anything that helps you lower cholesterol
is a good thing. Besides the spread, I also enjoy Benecol Yogurt Drinks.'
*Consuming 1.5 to 2.4g of plant stanols a day has been proven to lower
cholesterol as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Heart disease has
multiple risk factors; you may need to alter more than one to cut overall
risk. Do not consume more than 3g of plant stanols a day. Consuming more has
no additional benefit and is not recommended.
