# Barack Obama praises Poland's 'pragmatic' approach towards Russia

## Barack Obama has lauded Poland as a key ally to the US and praised their
|
|
"pragmatic approach" to its relationship with Russia.

|
|
The President defended his actions in not proceeding with George W Bush's
|
|
plans of building a missile shield on Polish soil, saying that the "reset" had
|
|
not only benefited Russia and the US but the wider region as well.
|
|
|
|
Speaking at a press conference with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Obama praised
|
|
the Polish leader for his approach to Russia "even if it's not always the most
|
|
politically popular thing to do."
|
|
|
|
The President said: "I'm a strong believer that the reset between the United
|
|
States and Russia has benefited this region as well as the United States and
|
|
Russia.
|
|
|
|
"It has reduced tensions and has facilitated genuine dialogue about how each
|
|
country can move forward.
|
|
|
|
"We appreciate Poland's pragmatic approach to their relationship with Russia."
|
|
|
