# Sir Paul Stephenson: we will bring rioters to justice
|

## Sir Paul Stephenson, the Scotland Yard Commissioner, has condemned the
|
|
violent student protests and promises to bring those responsible to justice.
|

The violence escalated when protesters attacked Prince Charles and Camilla's
|
|
car as they were travelling to the Royal Variety show.
|
|
|
|
The Scotland Yard Commissioner praised the police force for the way they
|
|
handled a "very unpredictable demonstration."
|
|
|
|
He said: "The route was thoroughly recced in advance, including up to several
|
|
minutes beforehand when the route was still clear.
|
|
|
|
"The unpredictability of thugs and how they moved about the capital meant the
|
|
protection officers were placed in a very difficult position."
|
|
|
|
Accusations that the police's tactics of using kettling added to the violence
|
|
were also dismissed by Stephenson.
