# Duke of Edinburgh to work on his 90th birthday
## He has already made it clear he did not want to be fussed over when he
turns 90, and now Buckingham Palace has announced that the Duke of Edinburgh
will not even take the day off to celebrate his landmark birthday.

Instead of spending June 10 surrounded by his family, the Duke will carry out
two official engagements at the palace, which will go on late into the
evening.
The official celebration of his birthday has been put back to June 12, when
the Queen and other members of the Royal family will attend a service at St
George's Chapel, Windsor, followed by a reception at Windsor Castle.
A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: "The Duke always treats his birthday
as a normal working day when it falls on a weekday, and he didn't feel there
was any need to make an exception on this occasion.
"It will be very much business as usual and he is looking forward to
fulfilling his commitments."
The Duke, who is patron of the Royal National Institute for Deaf People, will
hold a reception to mark the charity's centenary on the afternoon of his
birthday. In the evening, in his capacity as Senior Colonel, Household
Division, he will chair the Senior Colonels' Conference and afterwards hold a
dinner.

Last year, in the first concession to the Duke's advancing years, Buckingham
Palace announced that he would be stepping down as president or patron of more

However, he will still be involved with more than 800 organisations.
Buckingham Palace has published a list of 90 facts about the Duke to mark his
birthday, including his record as the longest-serving consort of any monarch.
