# Show promotes low- and zero-emission vehicles

The second annual UK Aware show, which aims to promote ideas for 'greener'
|
|
living without sacrificing lifestyle or comfort, has a line-up of more than 50
|
|
vehicles.
|
|
|
|
Exhibitors confirmed so far include Tesla, Saab, G-Wiz, Twike, Zipee Bikes,
|
|
The Battery Vehicle Society, Urbanites and Scooters, Ashwood and Green
|
|
Motorsport.
|
|
|
|
Tesla's Lotus Elise-based electric roadster is acknowledged as the machine
|
|
that redefined the electric car, making it sexy rather than staid and
|
|
impractical. The £92,000 British-built car has a top speed of 125mph and can
|
|
accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 3.9 seconds. A three-hour charge gives a claimed
|
|
range of 220 miles.
|
|
|
|
Saab is keen top promote its range of BioPower models that run on E85
|
|
bioethanol rather than conventional petrol. Bioethanol is a completely
|
|
renewable and sustainable alternative fuel source. Bioethanol is available in
|
|
various blends, E85 denoting 85 per cent bioethanol and 15 per cent petrol. As
|
|
well as reducing CO2 emissions, this type of fuel (both petrol and diesel)
|
|
reduces our reliance on oil.
|
|
|
|
The Twike Active is a lightweight electric vehicle that can also be propelled,
|
|
cycle-style, by the driver and/or passenger via two sets of pedals that drive
|
|
a chain to the rear axle.
|
|
|
|
Green Motorsport works towards reducing climate change caused by the burning
|
|
of fossil fuels and is currently developing viable renewable vehicles for the
|
|
road. It will be displaying some of its 'green' fleet of racing cars,
|
|
including the electric Wisper which can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in les
|
|
sthan five seconds.
|
|
|
|
UK Aware 09 takes place at Olympia Two in London on Friday, April 17 and
|
|
Saturday, April 18. The show is open from 10am to 6pm both days. Tickets cost
|
|
£5 (children under 16 admitted free).
