# Road-rage coach driver rams pedestrian
|
|

## CCTV footage shows the moment a coach driver lost his temper with a car
|
|
owner and deliberately drove his eight-tonne vehicle at a bystander.

Matthew Smith had been driving a rail replacement coach in February when the
|
|
driver of a grey Peugeot blocked his exit in an attempt to get his wife on
|
|
board.
|
|
|
|
CCTV footage outside Dorchester Street Station in Bath, Somerset, shows the
|
|
enraged 32-year-old euro Coaches driver climbing out of the coach to confront
|
|
the man.
|
|
|
|
During the argument he opens the obstructing car's door, releases the
|
|
handbrake and pushes it down the street.
|
|
|
|
As Smith drove his coach away he aimed it at a man taking photographs of the
|
|
incident on his mobile phone, clipping his backpack as he jumped out of the
|
|
way.
|
|
|
|
He has admitted one charge of dangerous driving and one of using threatening
|
|
language after the CCTV pictures were played to Bath Magistrates Court.
|
|
|
|
The court also heard that Smith leant out of his window and stuck his middle
|
|
finger up at a witness and a policeman as he drove away.
|
|
|
|
Amanda Chapman, chairman of the bench, described the incident as "nasty" and
|
|
ordered him to carry out 160 hours of community service.
|
|
|
|
"I have never seen something quite like it on the television before," she
|
|
said.
|
|
|
|
Mr Smith was also disqualified from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay
|
|
£50 compensation to the man he drove at.
