## Environmental initiatives are helping to slow down the progression of
climate change and, for some time, The Cavendish has been a leader in this
field.

Premium hotels are not normally associated with pioneering environmental
initiatives and carbon-cutting schemes. However, in 2010, The Cavendish
celebrated winning a coveted gold award in Sustainable Tourism from Visit
London.
Now in their seventh year, the awards recognise those attractions, people and
businesses that help to make London a world-class city. Winners are selected
by an expert panel of 11 judges and the public.
The Cavendish was commended for its commitment to implementing savvy
ecological measures and the four-star deluxe hotel team impressed judges with
its consistent, unfaltering approach to improving sustainability throughout
the hotel.
Low-volume showers and taps, low-energy light bulbs, sensor-activated corridor
lighting and hydrocarbon-based refrigerators are only some of the
environmental practices put into place at The Cavendish. Eco-operations have
been integrated across most areas of the hotel, including front-of-house,
back-of-house, meeting rooms and the highly-acclaimed restaurant, Petrichor.
Petrichor was also awarded a gold accreditation from the Sustainable
Restaurant Association. With 100% of its waste recycled, a commitment to
sustainable sourcing of all ingredients and its support of local British farms
and producers, the hotel's ecological credentials are considerable. It's clear
to see why the hotel fared so well in the awards.
