An unauthorised biography of the Italian supermodel and singer paints an
unflattering portrait of France's first woman, according to [The Times][2]
newspaper.
The book, titled _Carla, A secret Life,_ written by investigative journalist
Besma Lahouri, contradicts the image carefully carved by the Elysee Palace of
Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy as a "shy young woman".
Instead it details the affairs that she has had with a long list of celebrity
boyfriends including rock stars Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton.
It also claims that the 42-year-old Italian heiress, who married President
Sarkozy in 2008 after a short romance, has had extensive plastic surgery.
Miss Lahouri claims that on the couple's first summer holiday at Mrs Bruni-
Sarkozy's £2 million Riviera villa last year, the French first lady in invited
three former partners as house guests

Miss Lahouri writes: "Since he married the woman that some called a 'man-

Singers, philosophers, lawyers, bosses, men of the press or politics."
The book also tells how some men have been left devastated after being dropped
by the Italian model. But it dismisses [rumours][8] that circulated in March
that the French President and his wife were each having affairs.
Instead the book, which is published in France on Monday, claims that Mrs
Bruni-Sarkozy's past is the main source of friction between the two, but adds
that she was unimpressed when the President's attention was caught by actress
Catherine Zeta-Jones at a dinner in New York.
Miss Lahouri also claims that the Elysee conducted a media campaign in 2008 to
replace Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy's smouldering reputation with one more fitting to a
demure First Lady of France.
She claims that Pierre Charon, a civil servant at the Elysee Palace, told her:
"So we had to give her a new image. That of a shy young woman, for example
