Speaking for the first time since his 22-year-old daughter's body was found,
Mick O'Callaghan said the family was struggling to come to terms with losing
her. Fighting to keep his voice steady and hold back tears, he said: "Although
our pain at this time is raw and overwhelming, our memories of Sian will be a
comfort to us in the dark days ahead."
Supported by his eldest son Liam, he said the family was grateful to the
police for their "exhaustive" search for his daughter and "bringing Sian back
to us so speedily".
Miss O'Callaghan, an office administrator, went missing in the early hours of
Saturday, March 19 after leaving the Suju nightclub in Swindon. Her body was
found six days later near the white horse in Uffington, Oxon.
Christopher Halliwell, 47, a taxi driver, has been charged with her murder.
At the weekend, police also found the remains of a second woman in a field
near the village of Eastleach, Glos, and are still trying to identify her.

They believe she is aged between 23 and 30 and went missing between 2003 and
2005. Mr Halliwell has told officers he snatched a woman off the street in
Swindon some time between these dates. Police are checking missing people
files and the national DNA database but if no matches are found by today, they
fear it could be weeks before she is identified, according to sources.
Yesterday, Mr O'Callaghan, 51, paid tribute to his daughter on behalf of his
wife Elaine, 48, son Liam, 24, daughter Lora, 19, and 10-year-old Aiden.
He said: "As a family we wanted to express a few words about our beautiful
daughter, a wonderful sister to Liam, Lora and Aiden and loving girlfriend to
Kevin. Sian was a bubbly, friendly, caring and loving girl. She was instantly
likeable, beautiful and considerate." Mr O'Callaghan thanked friends, family
and the people of Swindon for their "overwhelming kindness and support".
Yesterday, more than 100 people gathered outside Swindon magistrates' court as
Mr Halliwell arrived for his first court appearance. The gathering was
organised by Dean Mayo, 37, a friend of Miss O'Callaghan's boyfriend, Kevin
Reape. The public gallery was packed as Mr Halliwell stood in the dock for the
brief hearing. While waiting for the suspect to arrive, one woman shouted: "An
angel has been taken from Swindon, she didn't deserve it. There is a lot of
hard feeling out there."
Mr Halliwell looked impassive as he was led from the cells. In a steady voice,
he confirmed his name, address and date of birth. As he was led out of the
court a few minutes later, several people in the public gallery shouted after
him as he left. Mr Halliwell, who is due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on
April 8, hid under a blanket as he stepped into a police van which was chased
by the crowd.
