# Missing woman traced from nightclub to forest
## Police have traced the last known movements of a woman who vanished from a
nightclub to a forest 12 miles away, using mobile phone technology.

About 400 volunteers, many of them family and friends of Sian O'Callaghan, 22,
yesterday joined police in searching the 4,500-acre Savernake Forest, near
Marlborough, Wilts, for signs of her.
Mobile phone records put her phone in the area 32 minutes after the office
administrator left Suju nightclub in Swindon at about 2.50am on Saturday, to
walk half a mile to the flat she shared with her boyfriend.
Police said her phone emitted a signal to a telephone mast in the forest. CCTV
footage showed her leaving the nightclub alone, and when she failed to come
home, her boyfriend, Kevin Reape, 25, a quantity surveyor, sent her a text
message at 3.24am which read `I'm worried', but she failed to reply.
As an anonymous donor offered a £20,000 reward to find Miss O'Callaghan,
detectives were trying to establish how her LG E900 Optimus mobile phone came
to be in the forest area.
They estimate it would take between 20 and 25 minutes to drive there from the
nightclub at that time of night.

Her phone carried on receiving texts and phone calls in the area for 12 hours
until the battery went flat.
Miss O'Callaghan had spent the evening in Swindon with friends but was not
accompanied by her boyfriend, who had spent the day at Cheltenham races.
Police said the couple exchanged text messages throughout the evening before
Mr Reape returned to their home at about 10.30pm and fell asleep without
responding to his girlfriend's final text, which asked: `Where are you?'. He
reported his girlfriend missing at 9.45am on Saturday.
On Monday Mr Reape fought back tears as he appealed for the missing woman's
safe return.
"She is a beautiful person who is instantly loved by everyone she meets," he
said. "We all just want to know that she is OK as it is breaking our hearts
not to know where she is."
Yesterday Miss O'Callaghan's friends joined the search, along with local
volunteers, many of whom did not know Miss O'Callaghan. They used sticks to
search under leaves and in plantations in the hope of finding Miss
O'Callaghan's purse or silver phone.
The searchers included Mr Reape's brother, Anthony, who returned from holiday
on Sunday.
Police said Miss O'Callaghan's disappearance was totally out of character. A
spokesman said the possibility that she may have been taken in the street in
an unlicensed taxi was "one of several lines of inquiry."
