# Men's health concerns: Signs and symptoms of obesity

## If your partner is overweight and risking their health, here are some
|
|
things you can do to support them in loosing weight.

If your partner is overweight (with a Body Mass Index of 25 or more) or obese
|
|
(more than 30) it's time to get them on a keep fit drive to shed the weight.
|
|
|
|
This isn't just so they look better - they will feel better and have a lower
|
|
risk of serious health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.
|

**Symptoms**

|

You may notice some other signs that his weight is a cause for concern that he

might be embarrassed to talk about

• increased sweating
|
|
|
|
• snoring
|
|
|
|
• difficulty sleeping
|
|
|
|
• inability to cope with sudden physical activity
|
|
|

**How you can help**

|
|
• Measure your waists together - if his is more than 37 inches (and yours is
|
|
more than 32) then you both need to take action
|
|
|
|
• Join a gym or a slimming club together, or just share a daily walk - it's
|
|
perfect catch-up time
|
|
|
|
• Ditch convenience foods and make meals with healthy fresh ingredients, based
|
|
around starchy carbohydrates
|
|
|
|
• Eat smaller portions - you can buy special plates showing the proportions
|
|
and types of food it's best to eat
|
|
|
