## Jane Wake, who offers fitness training to celebrities, tells Anna Magee
about her love of the outdoors, and healthy living and eating, which includes
making her own muesli.

**Jane Wake, 42, offers fitness training to celebrities and lives in London
with her husband Martin, and her son Daniel, six, and Gracie, 20 months**
"I have to get outside every day," says Jane Wake, a fitness consultant and
founder of Baby-A-Wake providing pre- and post-natal fitness guidance.
"Coming from a family of active people who love nature, I am passionate about
the outdoors. Before I had my children I used to love mountaineering - the
sense of achievement of getting to the top, the fresh air and the fun of
hiking a trail with friends. So, I'm planning a trip to the Welsh mountains in
June."
These days, Jane mixes family and work commitments with exercise, choosing to
run or walk to her meetings in London.
"It gives me thinking time and breathing space to take in the day, while also
getting a workout," she says. "At the weekends, I would rather spend time with
the family than go to the gym, so I run around my local area and the common
doing errands with my daughter Gracie gurgling in the stroller and Daniel on
his bike."

Jane's a big believer in starting the day well. "I never leave the house
without breakfast. I make my own simple muesli by mixing large, unmilled oats,
chopped raw almonds and Brazil nuts as well as pumpkin, flax, sesame and hemp
seeds ground in the blender to make them digestible. I add fresh berries or
other seasonal fruit and rice milk.
"Cooking with fresh herbs makes a dish. On Sundays, I often make roast
chicken, and whether I use oregano, thyme or rosemary the flavours can
transform the taste and means I don't use salt in my cooking. I love adding
fresh mint to salads and as a marinade, chilli and mint marry well."
Also a fan of natural oils, Jane adds eucalyptus or mint oils to boiling water
as an inhalation when the whole family is stuffed with cold, as it really
unblocks sinuses with the clean, natural smell.
"And I have a little lavender spray by my bed that helped me through my pre-
children days when stress would keep me awake at night. Now, when my sleep
patterns are disturbed because of the children, I spray a little on my pillow
to relax and calm me. Along with a good book it's my sure-fire sleep fix.
"My secret remedy is grapefruit tincture. A few years ago I was in Beijing and
got a stomach parasite. My friend, Jamie Richards, a nutritionist, suggested
grapefruit essence. I took a few drops in water daily and a course of
probiotics to restore 'good bacteria' to my gut and within a month, my tummy
was restored.
"This is a great time of year for getting outside - and bringing the outdoors
in," says Jane.
"The camellia tree in my garden was brimming with blossom in April. The
flowers are precious as they don't last long and all bloom at once, but having
them in every room in the house last month gave me that delicious feeling that
summer is on its way."
