# Facebook 'knows' when you will get dumped

shown that around Valentines Day and Easter time are the times when most

[**David McCandless**][7], a British journalist and graphic designer, analysed
10,000 Facebook status updates before figuring out the two peak times of the
year when people tend to get dumped by their partners.
Famous for displaying data in a visual manner, McCandless, who is also the
author of_ Information is Beautiful_, first displayed the [**graphic**][8]**
**at the annual TED conference in Oxford earlier this year. However, the
graphic has gone viral over the last few days and garnering a lot of attention
online.
His research, based on public Facebook data, found that there are these two
big spikes in the year when people were most likely to break up with their
boyfriend or girlfriend. However, there was also a spike two weeks prior to
Christmas.
The research also showed another spike around April Fool's Day, after people
jokingly split with their partners and that Monday was the most common day of
the week for break-ups to be announced via Facebook.
