At launch, Samsung's Galaxy Tab is available across all five of the UK's major
networks. But it doesn't exactly come cheap, with prices starting at around
£499, which makes it more costly than the entry-level iPad.
Currently just about the best [**Android tablet out there**][4], the Galaxy
Tab appears the only serious option for those keen to try Google's mobile OS
on a tablet computer. Its pricing, however, could mean that only true Android
fans buy one.
"Pricing the device so close to the iPad could be a parlous decision," says
Jonathan Leggett, an expert at comparison site Top10.com. "Had Samsung
substantially undercut Apple, the Tab could well have found a mass market
audience prepared to make room for it in their range of devices somewhere
between their smartphone and laptop. As it stands, the Galaxy Tab is just too
expensive for what it is."
The two best value packages appear to be from Three and Talk Talk, with O2,
Orange and T-Mobile making relatively similar deals. Importantly many of the
networks are offering different data allowances, some granting 1GB of use for
the same price as 500MB on another. For those of you who are heavy users, or
enjoy streaming music or watching videos, this could be a crucial factor.
Most of the network contracts also offer the Galaxy Tab without free minutes
or texts, despite its ability to make calls. Opting for a data-only deal could
mean things are cheaper initially but you are in danger of running up large
bills once you get into the habit of making calls.

**T-Mobile: **
The Galaxy Tab comes on pay as you go, with T-mobile's pay-per-day mobile
broadband. Various options are available, with one day costing £2, a week £7
and 30 days costing £15. The daily rate will allow you 500mb of data, the
weekly 1GB and the monthly 2GB.

**Orange: **
Orange offers the Galaxy Tab on two of its animal themed contracts; Dolphin
and Raccoon. The former sees £5 a month for 500mb of data and the tablet
itself costing £529 or alternatively a 12 month contract with the same data
options but £499 for the Galaxy Tab. Raccoon is priced slightly differently;
£15 gets you 1GB of data and the tablet for £515. Alternatively a 12 month
contract on Raccoon costs £10 monthly for 1GB of data and the Galaxy Tab for
£499.

**O2:**
Adopting the Galaxy Tab on O2 will initially see your bank balance take a
pretty serious £599 hit. However at a lower monthly cost of £5 for 500mb of
data it does equate to the cheapest option after a two-year period.

**Vodafone:**
With the cheapest purchase price for the Galaxy Tab, Vodafone offers a highly
competitive Galaxy Tab deal. £10 per month will get you 1GB of data or £15
3GB, the most data for the price.
Galaxy Tab Price: £499
All of the above contracts are rolling monthly deals and can be changed and
can be left or changed at any time, unless adopting Orange's 12 month option.
