Nods to earlier Speedsters such as the 964-generation 911 of the 1990s include
|
|
black stone guards on the rear wheel arches and black surrounds for the
|
|
headlights.
|
|
|
|
The profile of the new 911 Speedster is given maximum impact by the use of the
|
|
Carrera 4 body, its 44 millimetre wider rear stance giving extra emphasis to
|
|
the rear-wheel drive nature of the car.
|
|
|
|
Powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine producing 408bhp and 310lb ft of
|
|
torque, the Speedster lives up to its name by hitting the benchmark 62mph from
|
|
a standstill in 4.6 seconds and attaining a top speed of 189.5mph.
|
|
|
|
Average fuel consumption is claimed to be 27.3mpg, so the car uses no more
|
|
fuel than the standard 911 Carrera S Cabriolet thanks, says the firm, to
|
|
"Porsche Intelligent Performance".
|
|
|
|
The Speedster comes as standard with the seven-speed PDK gearbox, active
|
|
suspension management and ceramic brakes. For when the weather turns bad,
|
|
there's a lightweight canvas roof stowed under the rear "humps".

The Speedster has a hand-finished interior in black, smooth-finish leather,
|
|
while the "Pure Blue" exterior colour has been developed exclusively for the
|
|
car. It can also be ordered in white, at no extra cost.
|
|
|
|
The Speedster series began in 1953 with a sports car based on the Porsche 356,
|
|
which had two bucket seats, doors with slide-in plastic windows and a
|
|
shortened, elegantly curved windscreen.
