# Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo in

scintillating form ahead of El Clsico
|

## Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo showed once more why they are widely
|
|
considered the world's best players this weekend, both scoring hat-tricks as
|
|
Barcelona and Real Madrid demolished Almeria and Athletic Bilbao respectively.

Ronaldo notched up his hat-trick as Real thrashed Bilbao 5-1 home win over
|
|
Athletic Bilbao on Saturday to maintain their perfect winning home form so far
|
|
this season.
|
|
|
|
Messi scored his fiifth league hat-trick - and, at the age of 23, his 101st
|
|
league goal - as Barcelona routed Almeria 8-0 to equal the biggest ever away
|
|
win in La Liga.
|
|
|
|
What else can you say about Messi?" said Barcelona's Andres Iniesta of his
|
|
team-mate's form. "There are no words left. Let's hope he continues like he
|
|
is."
|
|
|
|
The goals look the two forwards' already impressive scoring records for the
|
|
season look even more improbable.
|
|
|
|
The goals bring Messi to 22 goals from 17 games in all competitions so far
|
|
this season, while Ronaldo has 16 from 18. With 14 league goals, Ronaldo is
|
|
one ahead of his rival in La Liga's scorers' chart - but Ronaldo said that he
|
|
wasn't concerned with a personal competition as Real Madrid prepare to take on
|
|
Barcelona at the Nou Camp next Monday.

"We are very happy for the win and I'm also very happy for scoring three
|
|
goals, but the important thing is that we continue being leaders. I'm fighting
|
|
to win the league, not for the Pichichi (the award for the top goalscorer in
|
|
La Liga)."

"The 8-0 at Almeria doesn't tell me anything, lets see if they score eight
|
|
goals against us on Monday," he declared.
|
|
|
|
Real go into the fixture one point ahead of Barcelona, but Barcelona's double
|
|
victory in the fixture last year was crucial in determining the outcome of La
|
|
Liga, which Barcelona retained by just three points.
|
|
|
|
Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola denied that his team's performance against
|
|
Almeria should be seen as a warning to Real Madrid before the teams meet.
|
|
|
|
"We are not trying to send out a message to anyone," he said.
|
|
|
|
"We scored nearly every time we went forward, unlike other days. It is not
|
|
easy to describe a game that finished like that. I want to congratulate the
|
|
team on their effectiveness.
|

|
|
"Everything we did is our own merit. That's the way. We have shown once again
|
|
that if we do certain things, show solidarity, that we all do everything, we
|
|
control the game. The talent does the rest."
