Mentioning and notifying users

With mentions you can mention and notify users of the network in your posts and comments.

1. Purpose

If user Alice mentions user Bob in her post or comment, Bob gets a notification.
Mentions in comments are helpful if there is already a thread of comments. A mention makes it clear to whom a message concerns.

Notice: To mention specific users you need to know their unique user name, not their display name.

Put the cursor into your post or comment where you like to add a mention.
Type the at sign (@) on your keyboard and add the user's unique user name. (If you don't find the at sign on your keyboard check out the at sign page on Wikipedia.
Type the unique user name of the user to be mentioned. All matching user names appear on typing.
Select the required user name (or press the Enter key if the correct name is highlighted). The mention will be added with a link to the user's profile page.
After saving your post or comment the mentioned users will get a notification.
